About Fieldhouse Journal
Fieldhouse Journal is an independent reference focused on trail conditions, backcountry permit systems, seasonal access windows, and multi-day route planning for federal and provincial protected areas across Canada. The coverage area includes national parks managed by Parks Canada and provincial parks in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and Atlantic Canada.
The information here is compiled from Parks Canada documentation, provincial park authority publications, and publicly available permit system data. It's intended as a starting point for trip planning, not a replacement for direct confirmation with the relevant park authority before a trip.
What This Site Covers
The focus is practical: permit reservation timelines, quota systems, seasonal access restrictions, and factual descriptions of established routes. The site does not cover gear reviews, fitness training, or wilderness survival instruction.
Three topic areas make up the current content:
- How national park permit and reservation systems work, including quota management and same-day release procedures
- Factual route descriptions for established multi-day trails in the Canadian Rockies and select provincial parks
- Seasonal access calendars for eastern Canadian parks, including spring mud season and fall shoulder-season windows
Content is reviewed and updated at least once annually. The most recent update date is shown on each article page.
